Porterhouse opened its doors in 2007 and relocated to 164 S B Street in January 2023. Built-in 1924, the Bank of San Mateo building is significant as San Mateo's only locally-owned financial institution. The classical roots of this building were used to express the concepts of solidness, reserve, thrift, and stability. These characteristics continue today to generate respect and value for this building, even though it has long ceased to function as a bank. Porterhouse introduced the art of dry aging in 2013 and the restaurant's meat locker is visibly located upon entry. Porterhouse features an inclusive menu with dry-aged and grass-fed Midwest beef, fresh seafood, vegetarian options, and seasonal produce and ingredients, all laced with the philosophy that house-made is the only way. French influences are felt throughout the menu with house-made stocks, sauces, and desserts, in addition to tableside experiences, such as Bananas Foster.
